Spotify QR Code Generator

How does it work?

  1. 1In Spotify, open the item, use the three-dot menu, choose Share and copy the link. Paste it here (a spotify: URI also works).
  2. 2Choose colours, module style, size and margin. Dark modules on white are the safest choice for a cover or poster.
  3. 3Read the preview and the contrast warning, then scan it with a phone that has Spotify installed.
  4. 4Download PNG, SVG or PDF, or copy the image to the clipboard.

What is Spotify QR Code Generator?

Spotify links follow the pattern https://open.spotify.com/type/ID, where the type is track, album, artist, playlist, show (podcast) or episode and the ID is a string of about 22 letters and digits. The same item can be written as a URI: spotify:track:ID. Links copied from the app often end with ?si= followed by a tracking code; it is not needed to open the item, and removing it makes the QR code lighter.

This is not the proprietary Spotify Code, the wave-shaped image that only works inside the Spotify app scanner. A standard QR code can be read by the ordinary phone camera, which then opens the web link and hands it to the Spotify app if it is installed, or to the web player if not. The web link is therefore the safer choice; a bare spotify: URI may be shown as plain text by some camera apps.

The code points to the item as it exists on Spotify today. If a track or playlist is removed, or is not available in the listener's country, the code still scans but Spotify shows the page or an error.

When should you use it?

  • On the back of an album cover, a vinyl sleeve or a CD insert, so buyers can stream the full record.
  • On gig posters and merch stalls, pointing to the artist page or the latest single.
  • On a café or shop stand, linking to the playlist that is playing in the room.
  • On a podcast flyer, business card or event badge, opening the show page directly.
  • In a wedding invitation or party programme, linking to the playlist guests can add favourites to listen to.

The Spotify link is turned into a QR code on your device. Nothing is sent to Spotify or to a server, and the code contains only the link you pasted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as a Spotify Code?

No. A Spotify Code is a proprietary picture that only Spotify's own scanner reads. This tool makes a standard QR code that any phone camera can open, and that you can restyle freely.

Which links can I use?

Any open.spotify.com link for a track, album, artist, playlist, podcast show or episode, plus spotify: URIs. Prefer the web link, because every camera app knows how to open it.

Should I keep the ?si= part of the link?

You can delete it. It only carries sharing information, and a shorter link produces a simpler code that is easier to scan at small sizes.

Does the code need Spotify Premium to work?

The code only opens the link. What the listener can then play depends on their own Spotify account and the item's availability in their country.
