URL to QR Code Generator

Paste a web address and get a QR code that opens that page when scanned. The tool adds https:// if you forgot it, checks that the link is valid and can append UTM source, medium and campaign tags, so your analytics shows which poster or flyer sent each visit.

https:// is added automatically if you leave it out.

How does it work?

  1. 1Paste or type the web address. If the protocol is missing, https:// is added for you, and an invalid link is flagged.
  2. 2Optional: fill in utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign to tag the visit for your analytics tool.
  3. 3Adjust colours, size, margin, module style and error correction, and add a centre logo if you like.
  4. 4Scan the preview with your phone, then download PNG, SVG or PDF.

What is URL to QR Code?

A URL QR code stores the full address of a web page as plain text. When a phone scans it, the camera app shows the link and offers to open it. Because the address itself sits inside the pattern, there is no redirect service between the scanner and your site.

UTM parameters are tags added to the end of an address and read by analytics tools. utm_source says where the visitor came from (for example poster or newsletter), utm_medium names the channel (such as qr) and utm_campaign the promotion (spring-sale). A tagged link looks like https://example.com/offer?utm_source=flyer&utm_medium=qr&utm_campaign=spring. Tags make the link longer, so the QR code becomes denser.

The code has no built-in counter. The only statistics you get are the ones your own analytics collect from those tags.

When should you use it?

  • Printing a code on packaging, menus or posters that points to a product page or landing page.
  • Adding a link to a business card, brochure or presentation slide.
  • Comparing which printed placement brings more visits by giving each one a different utm_source.
  • Sending people from a shop window or event stand to an online form or booking page.

Privacy

This tool runs in your browser. What you type, paste or open is processed on your device by JavaScript and is not sent to our servers, stored or shared. Your data stays on your device.

The address you enter is encoded in your browser and never sent to us. Only your own analytics tool sees the UTM tags, once someone opens the link.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I shorten a long link first?

Long addresses create dense codes that need more print space. If yours is long, remove parameters you do not need or use a short address that you control. Always test the printed code from the distance people will really scan it.

Can I change the destination later?

No. This is a static QR code, so the address is fixed inside the pattern. If the page moves, set up a redirect on your own website from the old address, or print a new code.

Will the link open automatically?

Normally not. Camera apps show the link first and wait for a tap, which is a good security habit. Prefer https links to avoid browser warnings.

Do I need UTM tags?

No, they are optional. Use them only if you analyse traffic with a tool that reads UTM parameters, and keep the values lowercase and consistent so your reports do not split into duplicates.
