How does it work?

  1. 1Allow camera access when your browser asks. The rear camera is used by default, and a button lets you switch cameras. If your device supports it, a torch button turns the flash on.
  2. 2Hold the QR code steady inside the frame with good light. The result appears as soon as it is decoded.
  3. 3No camera? Upload an image, drag and drop it onto the page, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
  4. 4Read the result panel: the decoded text, a copy button and, depending on the content, actions such as open link, call, send e-mail or Wi-Fi details.
  5. 5For a link, check the full destination address shown before you choose to open it.

What is QR Code Scanner Online?

A QR code stores text, most often a web address, but also a phone number, an e-mail, a Wi-Fi network, contact details or plain words. This scanner decodes it with the open-source ZXing library, running inside your browser, and then presents the content in a clear result panel.

The tool never auto-opens links. It shows the full destination URL first, so you can spot a lookalike domain or an unexpected address before you tap. This matters because a QR code can hide a malicious link: the picture itself tells you nothing about where it leads. For Wi-Fi codes, the panel lists the network name, security type and a password you can reveal.

The live camera scan needs a secure page (HTTPS) and your permission. If you refuse, or the browser blocks the camera, you can still scan by uploading an image or pasting a screenshot. Blurry, tiny, glary or damaged codes may not decode, and a poor result is not proof that a code is invalid.

When should you use it?

  • On a laptop or desktop with a webcam, when your phone is not at hand to read a code.
  • To check where a QR code on a poster, parcel or letter leads before you visit the link.
  • To read a QR code in a screenshot, a photo or an image sent by message, without a camera.
  • To copy a Wi-Fi password or a long link from a code instead of retyping it.
  • To test a code you have just generated and printed, and confirm it decodes as expected.

Privacy

This tool runs in your browser. What you type, paste or open is processed on your device by JavaScript and is not sent to our servers, stored or shared. Your data stays on your device.

Camera frames and images are decoded on your device by JavaScript and never sent to a server. The tool does not store scan history, and it does not open a link unless you choose to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the scanner not open links automatically?

A QR code can point anywhere and you cannot tell by looking at it. By showing the full destination first and waiting for your choice, the tool lets you spot a suspicious or misspelled address before any page loads.

Why is my camera not working?

Live scanning requires a secure connection (HTTPS) and your permission. Check that the camera is allowed for this site in the browser settings, that no other app is using it, and try another camera with the switch button. You can always upload an image instead.

Are my images or camera video uploaded?

No. Decoding runs in your browser, and neither the video frames nor the images leave your device. You can check this by using the tool with the network disconnected once the page has loaded.

It does not read my QR code. What can I try?

Improve the light, hold the phone steady and move closer or further until the code is sharp. Turn on the torch if available, avoid reflections, and make sure the whole code and its white border are visible. For an image file, use a larger or higher-contrast version.

Can it scan barcodes as well?
