How does it work?

What is Google Maps QR Code?

The code stores a Google Maps URL in the documented search format, https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=… The text you type is percent-encoded and placed after query=. When a phone scans it, the link opens in the Google Maps app if it is installed, or in the browser if not, and shows the matching place with buttons for directions and reviews.

The result comes from Google Maps searching for your text at scan time, so precision depends on how specific your query is. A full street address, or a business name plus city, gives the safest result. Because the link is static, it cannot be edited later, but if the business moves and Google updates its listing, the same search may show the new position.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It is a normal https link, so both systems open it in a browser or in Google Maps. Some iPhone users may see a choice between Apple Maps and Google Maps depending on their settings.

Should I use an address or coordinates?

Use an address or business name and city when people are looking for a named place. Use coordinates for spots with no address, which Google Maps then shows as a dropped pin.

Can I make the code open a route directly?

This tool builds a place search. After scanning, the visitor taps Directions to get a route from their current position. A pre-set route with a fixed starting point is not offered.

What if the search shows the wrong place?

Make the query more specific: add the street number, the postal code and the country. Test the printed code in the city where it will be used.
