SEPA Credit Transfer QR Code Generator (EPC)
Enter a beneficiary name, an IBAN and, if you wish, an amount and a payment reference, and get an EPC QR code, also known as a GiroCode. The payer scans it from inside the transfer or scan-to-pay feature of their banking app, which pre-fills the SEPA transfer, so nobody has to copy an IBAN by hand. A phone's normal camera will not open the bank: it only shows the text. Everything is built in your browser.

How does it work?
- 1Type the beneficiary name (up to 70 characters) and the IBAN. Spaces are ignored and the IBAN is checked with the ISO 13616 mod-97 test.
- 2Optionally add the BIC, an amount in euros (0.01 to 999,999,999.99) and a payment reference or description of up to 140 characters.
- 3Keep error correction on M, the level recommended for this format, and adjust colours, size and margin. The preview refreshes as you type.
- 4Download the code as PNG, SVG or PDF, then scan it with your own banking app to check every field before printing.
What is SEPA / EPC QR Code Generator?
An EPC QR code follows the European Payments Council guideline EPC069-12 for SEPA credit transfers. In German-speaking countries it is called GiroCode. Its text is a fixed sequence of lines that a banking app reads to pre-fill the beneficiary, the IBAN and the amount of a transfer.
It only works for payments in euro between SEPA countries, and the whole payload must stay within 331 bytes, which is why the name and reference have length limits. Support depends on the payer's app: most European banking apps read it, while many non-European apps and plain camera apps only show the raw text. The payer always reviews and confirms the transfer; scanning never executes a payment.
When should you use it?
- On invoices and quotes, so clients can pay by scanning instead of retyping the IBAN.
- On donation posters, flyers or event tickets for associations, clubs and parishes.
- At a market stall or craft fair that accepts bank transfers.
- On rent, membership or tuition reminders sent by post or e-mail.
- In a crowdfunding page or a shared-expenses note between friends.
What does the QR code contain?
The payload is plain text with one item per line. The first four lines are fixed: BCD (the service tag), 002 (the version), 1 (character set UTF-8) and SCT (SEPA credit transfer).
Then come the BIC (optional), the beneficiary name, the IBAN, and the amount written as EUR followed by the number. Optional lines for a purpose code and a structured reference follow, and the last lines carry the free-text remittance information. What you type as payment reference or description goes into that remittance line, so the payer sees it in their app.
Privacy
This tool runs in your browser. What you type, paste or open is processed on your device by JavaScript and is not sent to our servers, stored or shared. Your data stays on your device.
The IBAN and every other field are used only to build the code in your browser; nothing is uploaded, and this site never handles any money. The code is static: it contains the transfer details, not a payment, and it cannot be revoked once printed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which banking apps can read an EPC QR code?
Most banking apps in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland and many other SEPA countries offer a scan-to-pay option in their transfer screen. Some apps and non-European banks do not, and a phone camera then only displays the text. Test with your own app and, if possible, with one from another bank.
Why does the tool reject my IBAN?
The IBAN must have the right length for its country and pass the ISO 13616 mod-97 check. A single mistyped digit almost always fails it. Spaces are ignored, so copy the IBAN as printed on your bank statement and compare it again.
Can I create the code without an amount?
Yes. The amount, the BIC and the reference are optional. Without an amount the payer types it, which suits donations. Fill it in for invoices so the figure cannot be mistaken.
Can I use it for other currencies?
No. The format is defined for euro transfers within SEPA countries only. For other currencies or countries, use a different payment method.
Does scanning pay automatically?
No. The app only pre-fills a transfer form, and the payer must check the details and confirm it with their usual authentication. Check the IBAN carefully before printing many copies.
